I want to see that movie Dear John.It looks really heartfelt.I feel I can relate to it some ways, but am afraid it will just bring up memories. Knowing someone who is contemplating enlisting in the military.I would be really sad to see this person go as I have feelings for them which I feel I cannot express. Its a complicated situation but feels strongly in my heart that this is someone I could see myself with.

If it's anything like the book I'd avoid it like the plague.

I need to remember that Nicholas Sparks isn't known for his "happily ever ending" stories.

I was just thinking that. One of the main characters always dies in a Sparks novel turned movie. They should put a warning with the movie ads or something to let folks know its based on one of his novels. I watched Night In Rodanthe not knowing it was based on a Sparks novel. I hated being suckered into another one of his movies where one of the lovers dies. After a few of those you feel like you need to get into loss recovery program. Avoid his movies.

Now this one does have a "and they both lived..." ending, but it didn't end the way I wanted to. At all. I was disappointed.

I will say The Guardian has a GREAT ending and it's a Nicholas Sparks book.

You know I just didn't quite believe you - there being no one dying in a Sparks novel and a happy ending and all. So I did a quick Google search on the book "The Guardian" - the dog her late husband leaves her - the one she raises, the only part of him she has left and the dog that is an important part of the story, and the dog who is the the hero in the book - the dog that dies protecting her - Yah that sounds about right. Not a heart breaker at all.

Please don't throw paper books at me. I understand Sparks has a huge following and obviously several of his books have been made into films. It's just I don't need to keep having my heart broken every time I see one and three was enough. I suppose we all come into these things with our own histories and I have mine - which is a Sparks novel.

I thought Night in Rodanthe was a really bad movie vs book. The book was so much better than the movie. In the book the main character was NOT cheating on her husband, he had already divorced her. She was telling her story to her daughter whose husband had died. The grown daughter was not able to function due to her grief and told her mom that she would not understand because she never experienced love and loss the way she had. Then the mom pulls out the box of letters from the guy and shares their story with her daughter. To get her to understand that she gave up that love to come home and raise her children and he went to reconcile with his son and died there. That is so different than the movie version.

As far as Dear John, the movie was good but the ending annoyed me. The person who dies is not the person you are expecting to; I don't want to give away the movie ending. But it is not in theatres anymore anyway right?
