My son is barely 20 months old, but he enjoys being read to. I found myself curious last night if what the favorite bedtime stories are here at CW. Or, if your kids are older, what books stick out in your mind as being read a few hundred times?

Last night before bed we read:

Green Eggs and Ham
Clifford (the big red dog) visits his family
The poem "Twas the Night Before Christmas"
Peter Pan (severely abbreviated)
Sleep Tight, Little Elmo

While I Slept
Harold and the Purple Crayon

Both of those books we could recite by memory! There are also a couple other Harold books. Dh also had Willie's Adventures (same author) from when he was younger.

Harry the Dirty Dog and other Harry books were favorites of mine. For Christmas one year dh got me the originals. Yes, they were dog eared and very warn, but that's the way kids books are supposed to be!

Goodnight Moon
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight
Guess How Much I Love You

I can recite all four of those from memory... a talent that came in handy when we were out of town and forgot to pack bedtime stories!

With three kids, we limit them to one bedtime story each... otherwise I'd spend HOURS reading to them. My eldest is now seven, so I end up reading to him from whatever book he's currently reading (I think he's starting Inkheart today). When he was about four, we read through the Chronicles of Narnia at bedtime. That was before his brother and sister were born, when I had more time! It will be interesting to see if they'll let me read it to them once they're a bit older.

Hug (Jez Albrough)
Anything Robert Munsch
Anything Curious George
Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (I have several copies of this one including a first edition that NO ONE touches!)
If You Give a Mouse/Pig/ a Cookie/Pancake or any of those by Laura Nuemeroff

To name a few.

Right now my youngest and I just started to read through the Little House series. We are almost done with Little House in the Big Woods and will move on to the next book. We also listen to lots of books on CD when we travel or are in the car. When we leave tonight we are bringing along a copy of The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe and maybe we'll let Zoe finish listening to the book Just Grace on CD too.

Blessings,

Garsy

Helen loves Baby Shoes by Dashka Slater...actually, she can "read" it to me, we've read it so often she knows it by heart. She also loves the Fancy Nancy books and I think those are great too. When she was younger we read Pat the Bunny a lot,

Hmmm...
Five LIttle Monkeys Jumping on the Bed comes to mind.

We have an old copy (from my grandma!) of Winnie the Pooh stories. It is the original version, not Disney, and my boys loved it! I remember my dad reading it to me when I was little.

Right now we are reading some books for review, from a reprinting company called Salem Press. They search out wonderful old books (mostly victorian era) for children and young folks, and the three that I got are awesome. The one I'm reading the boys now is based on a real story about a family that smuggled money and food to General Washington's army at a critical time. Very exciting.
