So I just got married and am awaiting my marriage certificate to arrive in the mail so I can change my name with the Social Security Office and DMV. It really should just be a matter of a couple days, maybe a week and a half until I can get the paperwork started for my new social security card.

I just started a new job yesterday and have to fill out the tax forms and such. Do I put my old name and then have to fill out the forms again in 2 weeks (making sure my supervisor is aware)? Or just fill out the new name and tell him that I'm just waiting on the paperwork to arrive in the mail?

I'd check with the company's HR dept. to see what they say. Common sense says it would be okay to use your new name, but this is the government. Common sense isn't in their vocabulary.

I agree with Bill, Christine.

And, I'd also ask them about the other question regard which box to check in regards to your name being the same as your SSN card.

Thanks.

Not sure what kind of HR there is. It's a tutoring company, so it's the area director and a bunch of tutors. I am not actually in an office. So this is all via email. I'll send him an email though and hopefully he can answer my question.

Worse comes to worse ... I suppose I can submit the form three different ways.
