Petra's Not of This World at Knott's Berry Farm's "Jubilation '84". I later picked up a $5 cassette of the new group called the Altar Boyz' debut I'm Into God. They became one of my favs of the era.

The first CD I was ever given was "The Promise" by Plus One when I was twelve! I thought they were the coolest band ever and had the biggest crush on Jason Perry! LOL!

The first CD I ever personally bought was "Letters To The President" by Hawk Nelson when I was sixteen! I still love them four years later! LOL!

The first 'music' I remember buying was around 1978. I bought a 45rpm single of "Got to get you into my life" by Earth, Wind and Fire (from Sergeant Pepper's)...and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Nuthin' Fancy" LP was purchased not too long after that.

The first CD I got was, among others, Genesis (1983 self-titled) and The Beatles' "Meet the Beatles", both in '87.

The first 45 I remember buying was "The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace.

The first album I ever bought was Olivia Newton John's "Don't Stop Believing" - as a 4th grader, I had the biggest crush on her.

My first true rock and roll album was Foreigner's "Double Vision."

The first record I bought that turned me into a music junkie was Kansas' "Point Of Know Return" - actually, my brother bought me this on 8-track(!) for a Christmas present in 1978.

My first CD was Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love."

Mindless trivia: I have owned Cheap Trick's "At Budokan" in four types of media - vinyl, 8-track, cassette, and CD (never owned a reel-to-reel version ).

My first vinyl album was ABBA's greatest hits and I purchased it in England when I was visiting family.

My first cassette was Southern Rock's best hits.

My first cd was Van Halen's self titled album, even though I already had it on vinyl.

I forgot about 8-tracks...I know that I bought one or 2 new back in the day (and I still have about 80 currently), but mostly I bought a few Realistic blank 8-tracks and recorded my brother's and sister's albums on them.

And I do have 1 commercial release reel-to-reel: Chicago II.

I am outdone by my brother-in-law, though, as he owns my late in-law's old Victrola.

My first records were AC/DC - Back In Black, Styx - Cornerstone and Cheap Trick - Dream Police before that I was content with whatever my older brothers bought.

First Cassette - Van Halen II

First CD - New Order - Low-Life

This is a great song, but I'm pretty sure it's on "Revolver."

My brother gave me Petra's Beat the System for Christmas in '84 (I think). I always listened to his records, but this was the first one that was really mine. The first one I bought myself was Back to the Street, also Petra, which I soon regretted (I dislike the entire 2nd side).

Just remembered. The two aforementioned were both cassettes. The first vinyl record I bought myself was Steve Taylor's I Want to be a Clone.

I think my first CD was actually a box set of the Beethoven Symphonies. It was the Laserlight set featuring some orchestra from Hungary. They were awful, but I bought them before I knew better. I replaced them a couple years later with Berlin/Karajan.

I'm pretty sure Dave meant the soundtrack to that awful "Sgt. Pepper" movie with the Bee Gees & Frampton. The EWF cut was the highlight of the entire thing, if I remember correctly.

For me, the first music I remember getting is a 45 of "She's a Woman"/"I Feel Fine" - still the finest two sided single in history in my opinion. First vinyl LP was Elton John - Don't Shoot Me, and first CD was Peter Gabriel - SO.

The first one I remember is a Garth Brooks compilation album (on cassette) sold at McDonald's. The first cd I remember was the first G3 album.

Thankfully, my musical taste has improved a bit since then.

1st 45 would be the "Theme from SWAT" (1976)

I bought 2 albums on the day I bought my first album and I can't remember which one the clerk rang up first, so it's either Ramones - "Road to Ruin" or Cheap Trick - "Dream Police"

1st Cassette was Electric Light Orchestra - "Out of the Blue"

1st 8-Track was Boston - "Boston"

1st CD - Again, several at the same time, Various Artists - "The 2 Tone Story", Elvis Costello - "Armed Forces", Joe Jackson Band - "I'm The Man", Pink Floyd - "Meddle" and The Jam - "Sound Affects."

Howling Wind, I actually recorded Cheap Trick Live at Budokan onto a reel so I could listen to it at my grandparents house. Does that count? If so, I with you on 4 types of media... I never had it on 8-track. BTW: Cheap Trick At Budokan should be in EVERYBODY'S collection. Probably one of the greatest rock n' roll records ever made.

I wish I still had my collection of 8-tracks - had everything from AC/DC to Nugent to The Police. Funny, but my brother and I were just talking about how you would occasionally have to stick a folded up piece of paper under an 8-track to keep it from dragging.

Remember how 8-tracks would sometimes have to change tracks during the middle of a song? The 8-track of "At Budokan" changed during Rick's guitar solo in "Big Eyes." To this day, I still listen to the CD and expect the track to change.

I was at the local record store tonight and almost purchased the new CD/DVD reissue of "At Budokan", but my wife already has it down on my Christmas wish list. That would be a fifth form of media (DVD) to own that record in.

How 'bout first album, as in vinyl? That would be the soundtrack from Jesus Christ Superstar. Oddly enough I can't remember the first cd I bought.

My first vinyl album was the soundtrack for JAWS in 1975 (I still have it!)

First cassette, REO Speedwagon's HI INFIDELITY

First CD: Lionel Richie's DANCING ON THE CEILING

Is that an eclectic collection or not?

Exactamundo. That cut and Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together" were the few bright spots in an otherwise abomination of a movie.

8-tracks! WOO HOO!

How this format, with its fade in the middle of the guitar solo fade back up for part 2 as it's almost over, died out is a mystery to me

I love Petra but Back to the Street is definitely one of their lesser albums.

What was the first cd that you ever bought?
I thought this was about the first MUSIC, not the first CDs.......

The first CDs were several classical recordings on the Pilz label, Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi, Chopin, etc. That was in the late 80s before I even I even owned a CD player.

The first MUSIC I bought was in the summer of 1968 - two 45s. "Journey to the Center of the Mind" by the Amboy Dukes and "Pictures of Matchstick Men" by Status Quo.

Yep. I think that's why I never bought it on 8-track. I always hated the "fade and click" in the middle of a song that was necessary on 8-track.

Okay, dude... I was gifted Petra Beat the System and Not of This World. I was pretty well aware of music but I was like 10 at the time my Dad had them and I don't even know where he got them??? . But that leads to my first purchase of Bryan Adams "Cuts Like a Knife" I wasn't really into Bryan Adams but it was Christmas Money and burnin' a hole in my pocket and I was hurried out of the store by my older brother who insisted that I just get that and move on. I wanted to get Scorpions Love at First Sting but heavy metal wasn't really uh... appreciated in my house. Moving on a few years, I think the first CD I purchased on my own was Red Hot Chili Peppers "Blood Sugar S.. Magic" In turn that really turned me on to music and a wider spectrum from there... well you all I'm sure don't want the entire history.
