The Georgia Senate seat goes to Saxby Chambliss..... This is probably one of the meanest races I have seen in a long time. Today when I went to the polls to vote the line was over an hour long and it was like all day. Apparently the republicans were aware this was too important of a race to lose.

Think Sarah might have made a difference?

I think Obama getting elected made the difference.

Chambliss: Palin 'allowed us to peak' quote:
Fresh off his runoff victory Tuesday night, Georgia Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss credited Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with firing up his base. “I can't overstate the impact she had down here,” Chambliss said during an interview Wednesday morning on Fox News. “When she walks in a room, folks just explode,” he added. “And they really did pack the house everywhere we went. She's a dynamic lady, a great administrator, and I think she's got a great future in the Republican Party.” I couldn't agree more.

This is really only a Pyrrhic victory if Republican leadership can't muster 40 to stop the administration. We'll see but after watching votes like the bailout in the Senate I'm not overly optimistic but I could also be very very wrong.

As someone who would have chosen Obama over McCain (voted for third party), I think this is good news. I want to see the Democrats run the country well, and the only way that will happen is if they run things from the center. If Republicans have the ability to filibuster, we may be able to help filter out the particularly stupid and unpopular laws.

Chambliss did a great job in playing on themes from the presidential campaign. The issue of a "filibuster-proof "Senate was perfect for the Chambliss effort. And, Palin is very popular among existing GOP supporters.
