Then why does it not have a blind button???

Say that your flippin' through the channels and you hear a song on a video channel that you like but the video is uh.... well inappropriate, why can't you just hit the "blind" button so you can still hear the song??? Or like, on Sundays when you are watching football and the commentators are talking serious business but the camera man flashes pictures of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. BOOM, hit the blind button so you can still hear the commentary but not see the images???

It's not as high tech as a remote, but how about you shut your eyes?

I run my DVR through my receiver, so even if the TV is off, I can still hear the sound. I have never done it on purpose, but I have noticed it when I am turning things off.

Do you have digital audio channels on your cable or satellite service? That way you can listen to music but not see videos! Or, as Random suggested, get an audio system to hook sound into. That way, the cable or satellite box can feed into audio and you can listen without watching.

I set up the "return" or "recall" button to something like the Weather Channel and when something comes on that I dislike, I hit the recall button and go to the other channel.

I find nothing wrong with the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

Well, they do work for Dallas, so their choice of employer is questionable.

But, considering my team doesn't need cheerleaders to tell us when to cheer I may not be the best person to make that assessment.

About that button - you are right. I used to have my tv set to go to closed caption when I used the mute. I imagine a blind button would put up the alternative description and that wouldn't be any better...

My husband and I watch TV through a projector, and I actually do have an option to "mute" the picture.
