Happy November everyone!

We're going on our annual drive through the hilly countryside today and hopefully, it won't rain so I can take some really nice pictures.

You know you hs when....your child gets stung by a bee and you turn it into a science experiment because she was just studying how the body reacts to things like stings. THere is a picture in her book of a woman who got stung by a wasp on her hand and the picture compares her two hands. DD gets it out and looks at it and compares it to her sting site

HI All!!! Things were really hectic around here & I decided to not even try to catch up on the October thread. Hopefully, in November I'll be able to keep up better.

Ds & I got the stomach junk right before my parent's came. Then I got it again & both of my parents got it too. We only had one day while they were here where everyone was feeling good & that's when we made applesauce (16 quarts!). We still had a nice visit despite not getting to go anywhere. School is going well. We're pretty much staying on track. I'm starting to get caught up in the house & hoping to get back on our cleaning schedule next week. Praying all of you are doing well!

Zoe - LOL about the bee sting becoming a lesson!

lol... My Ds wanted to disect the mole we trapped. Dh said wouldn't let them. I think we both knew their idea of disect was different than ours.

Hope your feeling energetic and back to normal Amy. It's tough on us moms when we get sick. .... so sorry your parents got it, too. We've had that happen in our family before!!

The play that the kids did last night, was so cute! It was about the first 16 presidents. What a perfect time for it!

Happy November!
Well, I got the job! I was not expecting it, but I got hired on the spot! (As long as the background check and drug screen come back okay, and that won't be a problem.) Once the results come back from those, they will call me with a date for orientation. I will probably start next weekend.
I will be working part-time, some evenings and some weekends. I am excited, and a little nervous about making it all work with homeschooling. But the pay is good, and it will help!
The weather warmed up yesterday, so it is much nicer here. The fall colors are beautiful and it is sunny. Much better than the sleet and snow that we had a few days ago!!

Thanks Annie! I am feeling good! I felt really bad that my parent's got it, but I did warn them & give them the chance to postpone their trip. I was just glad they felt better before they had to drive home!

Melissa - congrats on the job!!

Congratulations on the job, Melissa!

We have another mouse. I wish I knew what was different about this year. We didn't have the cat last fall and didn't have problems with mice. I'm starting to wonder if all the landscaping mulch we put in gave them nice places to nest over the summer and now their looking for a warmer habitat. We've caught quite a few in the garage. This little stinker hasn't shown himself, but he's left evidence. He ate into a container of popcorn seasoning, a bag of nuts and shredded some boxes under my sink. There's no food under there, so I don't know what he was doing in that cabinet. I have one more cupboard to go through today. We set several traps out, but he didn't even touch the bait.

Glad to see you back, Sarah. I was wondering why you weren't posting with us anymore.

I'm tired. We are supposed to go to an air show today. The kids really want to see the blue angels perform, even though, we've seen them practicing over our neighborhood for the past couple days. So I'm going to make an effort to head over there. I remember going when I was a kid and how much I loved it.

OK, I've been at work for less than 2 hours and I've already had it with stupid calls.

I am not in a very good mood. My dh rode in with me, and we had a "discussion" all the way in. I need to adjust my attitude.

Hi Sarah!

Congrats on the job, Melissa. I have always worked and homeschooled, so it can be done. Just remember to cut yourself some slack for the first few months, because it really does take awhile to make the adjustment and figure out what's gonna work for you.

Cindy--care to share a few stupid calls?

Ds1 and I went for a ride this afternoon. He's a much stronger rider than I am. Sigh...

Congratulations on the new job Melissa!

We haven't left for our drive yet. But as soon as Ds gets out of the shower we'll head out. We're supposed to have rain today, but so far, it only came this morning, so if it holds off until our drive is finished, I should get some nice pictures.

Dd is back from an overnighter at a friend's house and she's tired yet rather chatty.

Thanks for the "congrats" everyone! I will take things slow. I am still unsure of it all, but I am just gonna take it one day at a time.
Can't believe that it is November! Wow!
We spent the day unpacking, and the house looks to nice. We have so much more stuff than can fit in this house, but it is coming along. Lots of sorting, and lots of putting stuff into storage... but it is good. And so nice to begin getting settled in. It feels so good.

I found David talking about Qin Shi Huangdi and I had to ask him who he was, since neither his father or I knew. Then I asked him where he learned about Qin Shi Huangdi?. Apparently he found out about Qin Shi Huangdi while following a rabbit trail that had nothing to do with school and read up on him. My 13 year old son is more cultured than his parents.

Congrats Melissa!

The dance saga continues. I discovered last night that the program at the school is two programs both nights, not one program each night. As it stands now, we will have 5 of us the first night, 4 of us the next night. I do not know if one of the other dancers can do that commitment.

I told this girl last Wed. I needed the music for the song. This past Wed. night she told me I would have it last night. I asked her where it was and she told me she had given it to A. A is not the leader! I ask A for it and she does not have it-they left it in their other car. Upshot is I will not have the music until Wed. at dance practice.

This girl also suggested we get some men to learn the dance. Here is my opportunity to tell her, in a kind way, that the reason we are in this mess now is her fault. I told her that if I had known about this program a month ago (when she told A about it) that more people could have been invited to learn the dance. Since we now have only a week before we present this dance, it is not enough time to teach the dance to people and have them comfortable enough to present it.

She then tells me she knows the dance. I explain to her that practice is not just about knowing the steps to the dance, but it is also a chance for us to get used to dancing together as a group and work on our spacing as a group as well.

We practiced the dance and I can tell you that this girl does not know the dance. There is no point that we will have everyone together for the dance-this girl and another one do not show up on Wed. The other dancer does not stay late on Fridays.

On the way home my husband said that the dance looked terrible. He's right -it does. None of us know it the way we should-of course we only started practicing it last week since that's when I found out we were doing it.

I have decided that if we cannot improve on this dance by next Friday, we are not doing it. Who wants to do badly out int he community? Not me.

I do not know why this girl refuses to acknowledge me as the leader. I do not know why other people can't seem to follow me as the leader.

And this is not even the worst thing that happened last night-right before we practice, my blessing comes to me sobbing saying "The girls do not like me anymore!" One of the brats had purposely scratched my blessings arm three times, and tried to do it even more. One of the adults looked at it and said "It is obvious this was done on purpose."

I picked up my sobbing child and went to three of the four girls. The fourth one was nowhere in sight. With fire in my eyes, I asked them which one of them did it? All I got was I don't knows. I told them that either one of them did it, or they know who did it. No answer. I picked up my blessing and said "ENOUGH!"

I later found out it was the fourth girl who did it. I went to her mother and told her what her nasty, bratty daughter had done.

The other girls saw what happened and no one came to any adult while the brat was hurting my daughter.

I am furious!

I told the rabbi's wife what happened. Her response- "Oh."

Narnia, I'd rather worship the Lord in my home by myself than go to a church like yours. I'm sorry this has happened.

I am giving more serious thought to leaving now. How can I stay in a place where my blessing is physically hurt by her peers?

A place where people obviously do not want me to be a leader?

Narnia, I wonder if that girl is doing this on purpose. Perhaps this is a set up to show that you can't lead. I don't know. I'm not there, but this reeks to me.

To stay in a place that is abusive does not seem right to me. Sometimes it is when our children are harmed that we can see more clearly. When my father and his wife were giving me loads of grief, I would put up it and try to resolve it. Finally when I realized what they were doing to my children, I put my foot down and completely cut off contact with them. I should have done it long before I did.
