I'll make some fresh Jo for 'ya.

Glad to hear from Iraq. My son-in-law was over there a couple years ago. He came back with a broken leg, but at least he came back.

No terrorists here in the garage and no bullets flying...unless someone's cleaning their gun.

My uncle did that...shot grandma's fridge with a 30-06. At least nobody got hurt. Grampa just plugged the hole and the fridge still worked for many years. They don't make 'um like they used to.

There really ain't many bullets flyin' around these parts nowadays. It ain't like it was in '03. Heck, more people get killed or injured in Houston each day than over here. Things are quietin' down quite a bit. Probably time to get movin' on to another country soon. This place is just a big ol' money pit...

He broke his leg in a training exercize. They were practicing take-down moves when somebody behind him fell on top of his leg and broke the shin bones. They flew him to Germany where he stayed for several days. Then they flew him into the US (can't remember where) and about a week after the injury they finally set his leg.

Ouch... that hurts to think about it.
Gotta love training injuries, makes you feel really great.

No matter how careful we are, we still have some on occasion at the firehouse... just a part of the territory with the job.

BTW, welcome Jeff. We just hang here to hide from the girlies, enjoy some home brew, and smell the gas fumes from Ray's snow blower.

I like them too; mostly the one song that's used in Supernatural. It's a great song and has nice lyrics. I haven't heard any other of their songs, but I"m sure they're pretty good.

Oh my, the fire is out! (Denbert puts some kindling in the stove and throws in a cup of gasolene, lights the match and throws it in.) Say, that did the trick! SO much quicker than those fire starter sticks.

Meandering in and plopping down... whew, it's been a long couple of days working and cleaning up after the family. Was fun hosting, but with over 30 diners, next year my brother will have it!!

We gotta swap off alternative years or something, he and I are the only ones with houses big enough to have the whole family, but eyez can't do it all every year.

There were nine of us for Thanksgiving. That's a nice number. This year I tried something different. A few years ago I heard about roasting the turkey upside-down. Two years ago I was going to try it and forgot. Last year someone else cooked the turkey. So finally this year I had another chance. It works quite well. The breast meat comes out much juicier.

Hello guys, it's been a while since I've been in here...

I have a question, particularly of you northern folk, that probably isn't worth it's own thread so I thought I would ask it here..

My daughter got married last spring and is now moved up to northern Wisconsin with her hubbie. She (maybe a little from hubby too..) really wants me & wifey to move up there too. It is kind of appealing -- I've always wanted a cabin in the boonies and she has found 20 wooded acres on a river for 60K. What a deal! Here in AZ just an acre of rocks with no water but has 300 scorpions living on it costs at least that much.

So, my question is what kind of building materials & architectures work well up there in the north? Being a desert rat all my life, I'm used to concrete slabs, block & such. But I suspect that kind of stuff wouldn't hold up well in freezing areas.

My wife likes the idea of a log cabin

. They look cute but it sounds like a lot of extra expense & maintenance to me. My goal is a well built but simple & low maintenance kind of abode.

Mrtigger, a real log house can be extremely cold up thar in the winter. They look great, but are not great for year round living as they require a LOT of maintenance. You have to constantly chink the logs, or you'll be living in an open sith. Framed homes up there are framed with 2X6's to get enough insulation. But if you want really good insulation, look into a hay bail house. No, I'm not kidding... Google it.

Having come from Michigan when I was younger the one thing I would say is also check out all types of ways to heat. It gets cold there in the fall, winter, & spring.

That's a good idea about checking different methods of heating. Whether or not firewood is in ample supply is an example.
