My next trip will likely be next year. I am not exactly sure where I will go yet, but places such as NYC, San Francisco, Indiana or London are on the radar.

I don't drive because of the seizure history.

When the seizures starting occurring frequently while I was awake (versus, nocturnally), I made the decision to stop driving. Prior to that, they had occurred mostly while I was asleep; and the couple of them that were while I was awake - I thought were "flukes" . . . until the frequency of "awake" seizures increased; and then I realized that I didn't need to be driving any longer. When I can claim 15 consecutive months of being seizure-free, I will probably look into driving again.

Incidentally and on an a somewhat unrelated / somewhat related note . . . it's also illegal for people with recent seizure histories to drive; the timeframe varies from state to state.

It's also what I consider to be highly unethical to drive with a current seizure history; although sometimes people don't agree with me on that . . . and they disagree about as passionately as I stand by what I've said. However, people can get hurt or killed if someone has a seizure while driving.

And THAT, Ladies and Gentlemen is my soapbox for tonight.

i think that's a very wise choice........and commendable. OF COURSE it's dangerous!! so...as a fellow traveller on the road...thank you for being so responsible.

QUESTIONS:

Where you were born (as in geographical area; not which hospital or building), and when was the last time you were there?
I was born in southern Illinois... and I was last there... about ten years ago when we went up to visit.

I so agree..I didn't drive for many years for similar reasons...although mine were more lyme disease induced hallucinations than seizures, but equivalently a hazard on the rode...and I actually didn't go back to driving as soon as the dmv said I could. I wanted to be on the safe side..and while I love driving again now, when I didn't drive, it didn't bother me a toot. The last thing I wanted was to endanger anyone. I have a former co worker who still doesn't drive, and I am always telling her she can call me for a ride if she needs it, cause I know how it is. She hasn't done it yet, though, probably because she has family around.

When you apply to get your driver's license, there are three questions to answer. They are, "Do you have vertigo/get dizzy? Do you pass out? Have you had any seizures since....."

So if you're honest when you apply, the DMV won't give you your license.
When I was getting my permit at the ripe old age of 15, I answered yes to the vertigo question. The man said, "Well do you get it when you drive?" My response was, "I don't know. I've never driven before." He changed my answer to 'No.' Lesson learned. I don't get vertigo when I drive. I get it when I get up too fast or don't eat when I should.

Good morning Everyone! Last night after I signed off, I realized that I forgot about one thing with my answer on where I was born. I actually went into the area back in September when I had Jury Duty, but other than that I rarely make it to that side of the city anymore at all.

Sometimes I flirt with the idea of moving back to my original community, however the rents are not really cheaper at all and I have no real reason to go back there either.

Good Morning y'all!

Good Morning, Mike - and thank you for your offer!

I have tons of questions
However, I'm actually getting ready to log of, pack up my laptop and head out, so I won't have time to ask any of my questions.

HOWEVER, if anyone has any tips or tidbits that they want me to know about SanFran, please don't keep them a secret.

So far, I have learned, from y'all, about The Stinky Rose restaurant . . . which I hope to visit.

Y'all behave y'allselves while I'm gone.

Without getting into specifics, will you be staying Downtown? It is fairly easy to get there via BART, but you need to take the Skytrain to the BART stop first. Also, those fair machines are tricky too. Finally, if you have a lot of luggage you might be better either taking one of those airport shuttles or a cab instead. BART is not very luggage friendly at all.

If you are in Union Square, stay on the main Streets and do not go west of there. There is a very dangerous area called the Tenderlion which is just west of Union Square itself. East of there isn't bad per say, just a real lot of homeless people on Market Street instead, but they tend to keep to themselves for the most part though.

Why, is that bad? It does fall under street knowledge 101 though.

Interesting. I have blood pressure issues and am prone to dizziness and passing out. I've never been asked that at DMV before, nor have I ever worried about it in relation to driving because I always have a long warning period of feeling badly and so I would just not drive when I feel that way. I've never felt it while driving.

Happy travels, SharMar!

P.S. I do know that the thing people drive in is spelled r-o-a-d, not r-o-d-e..that's what I get for typing at 2:30 am with a bad cold and inability to fall asleep. Yeah, I were home skooled (I really was for 2 years, and liked it, and I am really very supportive of home schooling parents, so that's why I feel I can make a joke about it).
